Although I'm still not a big fan of these, there may be a small glimmer of hope.
NOTE: For your protection, confidence and comfort that you should have no problem getting paid as promised - and that your personal data is in legitimate hands, I have only included Market Research Firms that have a satisfactory record with the BBB (Better Business Bureau) at the time of inclusion here. This should be sufficient.
However since details can change, you are advised to do any additional research that you see fit prior to agreeing to participate in any potential paid focus group/ market reseach study. The great thing is that you should never have to pay to get involved in any of these - so that eliminates the worry of losing money.
If you want to find more relevant listings for your area, then you might try searching the Internet or your local phone book directory. I will warn you that this can become very tedious research. Legitimate focus group firms that are open to the public are just not that easy to find.
...Oh yeah and watch out for all those bogus listings on sites like Craigslist. I've seen tons of crap on there with no contact info or anything. Anyways, best wishes and have a blast making easy cash!-)

i am interested in doing research studies with olaza research.
I can't say that I've ever heard of olaza research. I googled it but didn't find any results. If you can supply me with more info. i.e. a website address or other, then I'd be happy to give you a second opinion.

There are also a couple sites that list focus groups from different companies, that way you don't have to call 15 different marketing companies to get on their lists. The 2 I've found are www.findfocusgroups.com which has been around a while, and www.focusgroupsearch.com which just started but looks pretty interesting.

I currently live in the DC area & have had good luck with www.metroresearchservices.com and have been in about 3/yr for the past few years at 100 to 250 per group depending on what the product was.

The reason I say this is because I, myself have participated in focus groups with at least four on your list and have been paid well for my time and input. These can be informative and educational as well so is a WIN-WIN in my eyes. If anyone is intersted in pursuing this type of extra income opportunity - be advised that with anything be diligent and return the phone calls. It is disappointing at times when you are 5 minutes or more into the qualifying phone sessions and they say "sorry" you do not meet our specs at this time... :( >>> but then...there are the ones that pay you $95.00 CASH for 45 minutes of your time. Consider the drive times and expenses first...you get pretty good at pre-qualifying the survey/focus groups as well. Have fun ALL and thanks again for the WEALTH of information $$$MULTIMASTERY$$$$. Hey Louise thanks for visiting! Even if you don't see your city listed here , I would advise you to still check these resources out anyway because many add new areas regularly. Also check your local phone book for more listings pertaining to your specific area. This hub is designed to cover more of a broader scope rather than individual areas; this hub would be miles long if I even attempted to do that LOL...

There's no magic way. You'll just have to register with multiple companies and if you fit what they're looking for, they'll give you a call. I'd suggest following-up with companies companies you register with from time to time, this way you can stay at the top of their minds.

Hi marica, some Paid Focus Groups do offer online panels as well like the Yahoo Panel. They do online and offline studies. However, most opportunities for Paid 'Focus Groups' still take place in a Live small group setting.

I've been doing focus groups with Schlesinger's for about 5 years. They are few and far between, but usually pay about $75. I also participate in About Orlando and they usually pay $75 per session also.

I am hesitant about giving out information, but I want to start doing these focus groups since I have such a high interest in them and a friend of mine got me to do one locally where I live. Any red flags to watch out for?
Hi Tina, glad you found this information helpful. When choosing focus groups in your area I'd recommend doing a little research on the company; you want to make sure they are a legitimate operation without a ton of complaints.
Also, I'd suggest only participating with focus group firms that have at least been in business a couple of years or more. I wouldn't mess with new startup ones at all. Not saying that they aren't necessarily legit, but they may not know what they're doing, may not pay right, or they could be a quick flash-in-the-pan scam!
Oh and one more thing... be sure to do a check with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) just to find out if it uncovers any excessive complaints. Even if the firm is not a member of the BBB per se, you could still get a report on them if they've had any prior complaints.

However, from our experience, most focus group participants prefer to find out about upcoming studies without having to sign up directly with 15 different companies. I started on one of these types of surveys but was turned off when they requested address and birth date. Seems to me a survey requires only birth year or age group. Birthdate is moving too close to identity theft for me. The website EngageInDepth dot com is not listed here, perhaps for that reason...

@Steven, yes you can particapte in multiple focus groups in a single month, but most likely it would have to be through different market research firms, which is why it's good to register with as many as possible.
I make a handy side income from survey/studies, but I would caution anyone using Fieldwork to double-check the amount promise on the phone. Several people in the Minneapolis were shorted $25 even though they had confirmation letters for $90. The president refused to pay the agreed amount, again, even with the letters of confirmation. She got very nasty about it so verify and reverify the pay amount.
I recommend Focus Forward. They do alot of focus groups as well as online discussion boards that you get paid for. Expect to get paid $50-$250 just for voicing your opinions. Hope this helps. :D

Hello, just wanted 2 say that I have been registered with Schlesenger, Delve, Plaza, and 1 that was left off the list is Compass research. These r all legitimate companies. luv them. Never got paid less than $100 for a 30-90 min study. But that's by choice because i live sooo far away from them.. N e thing else would not b worth the drive. You get compensated right after the group with either check, visa gift card, i have only got paid cash once, so apparently they don't pay that way n e more.

Yes there are focus groups in PA, just takes time & research to find. I've heard of the site you mention but the problem I see (at least with PA) is that it mainly leads to just one company: FocusPointeGlobal. Or it leads to Craigslist postings which are hard to trust.
This is really interesting. By participating focus groups you have the possibility of earning some handsome and quick money for a very little work.

There's many in LA!!! I do them all the time. Did one last week at the Sony buliding near LAX doing one this week @ MMRC @ lax, been there so much they know me by name lol love them cause they give me alot of PSA's (pay'em send'em away). Aims is another one of my favs. I used to go there so much that it felt like i worked there.

Thank you for the great information. I have used a number of these, both in person and online. The primary bitch I have heard on the online registrations is that people feel they require a great deal of information and the chances of actually qualifying and then being scheduled and paid can be quite small based on the paying company's required demographics. The negatives I have seen in some of the comments about specific companies aren't consistent with my experience. I have had good experiences as well with the groups people have voiced issues with. But as always, your mileage may vary.
One of the recent trends I have noticed for online focus groups is a move away from the traditional discussion boards and towards webcam based studies.
